A retired pest controller at the Guyana Sugar Corporation (Guysuco), who was allegedly caught with drugs, a gun and ammunition, was Monday refused bail and remanded to prison.

Seekumar Rambarran of 805 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice  was remanded to prison until October 5, 2015 when he would appear at the Springlands Magistrates Court.

Police said he could soon be charged with offering a GUY$1 million bribe to lawmen who allegedly found the illegal items.

He is accused of having in his possession one Browning 12-gauge shotgun and 51 live 12-gauge shotgun cartridges while not being the holder of a firearm licence.

Rambarran was also charged with being in possession of 26 grammes of cocaine and 36 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The offences were allegedly committed at Crabwood Creek by Rambarran who is now a shopkeeper.

Defence lawyer, James Bond told the court that Rambarran was married for 20 years, is the father of two children and is very sick due to constant chemical exposure while working as a pest controller.

Bond said police discovered the items in a thickly vegetated vacant lot and that his client was not in possession, control or knowledge of the items. He said if Rambarran’s wife was not charged then her husband ought not to have been charged.

Police Prosecutor Deniro James, however, said Rambarran was caught by detectives who were in a sting operation for two weeks. The court was told that police saw the accused tossing small containers in a nearby yard and a search later uncovered the gun and ammunition in his garden.
