A father and his two sons on Sunday remained in police custody after they were allegedly caught with two .22 rifles and one 12-gauge shotgun as well as matching ammunition, police said Sunday.
Investigators said the firearms, ammunition and an airsoft rifle were found on March 7 at about 9 a.m. at Shea Village, South Rupununi.
Police said a 53-year-old farmer and his two sons, 20 and 22 years old, were contacted at their home and searches uncovered the weapons and ammunition. They reportedly admitted that they did not have firearm licences.
“Searches were conducted on their persons and premises, during which the trio handed over two .22 rifles, one airsoft rifle, and fourteen (14) rounds of .22 ammunition.
Further checks were conducted in the kitchen area of the premises, during which one 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun along with five (5) 12-gauge cartridges were found,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.
Police said the men were escorted to the Aishalton Police Station and subsequently to the Lethem Police Station along with the suspected firearms and ammunition, which were lodged pending examination.
