Five men, who fled in the direction of the Rose Hall Town backdam after they allegedly robbed a supermarket of GY$1.5 million, are yet to be captured by police.
The Guyana Police Force said the incident occurred on Saturday, February 28 at about 7 p.m. when the owner of the supermarket, a 58-year-old man, was about to close his business.
“While the businessman was preparing to close his establishment, three masked males, one armed with what appeared to be a rifle and the others armed with suspected handguns entered the supermarket. The suspects reportedly ordered the businessman and his employees to lie on the floor,” police said.
Investigators were informed that the suspects then removed approximately GY$1.5 million from the cash register before fleeing south along the access street towards the backdam. “Police responded promptly and conducted searches in the area. However, the suspects have not yet been located,” the force said.
