Manhunt on for camouflage-clad mining camp raiders

Police were on Saturday hunting three masked and armed men, who attacked a mining camp at 68 Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), and carted off an undisclosed quantity of raw gold.

“A team of Police ranks is currently en route to the location to conduct further investigations and efforts are ongoing to locate the suspects,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.

Investigators were informed that a Brazilian gold miner, 58, was among several persons who received injuries during the robbery that occurred Friday morning between 8:30 and 11:00.

Police said the robbery was carried out by three masked English-, Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking males.
