Two persons have been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a 75-year-old man, who recently arrived in Guyana, on Friday at his Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara home, the Guyana Police Force said on Saturday.
Police said Athlone Goring was allegedly murdered on Boxing Day at about 5:40 a.m.
Investigators said several persons were questioned in relation to the matter and a man, 20, and a woman, 22, were arrested and remained in custody assisting with the investigation.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, who had recently arrived in Guyana, was found lying in the upper flat of his residence with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds,” police said.
He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police added.
The body is at Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
