Former A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) member of parliament, Devin Sears, who was charged last month with being in possession of 300 kilogrammes of marijuana, was on Friday granted GY$400,000 bail.
Chief Justice Navindra Singh granted bail after an application was made by attorneys-at-law Nigel Hughes and Bernard DaSilva.
Mr DaSilva told Demerara Waves Online News that Mr Sears’ next court date is 11th November, 2025 in Linden.
Mr Sears was arrested late in the night of Monday, October 20, 2025 after police found 310.71 kilogrammes of marijuana in a bus he was driving. The bus bears registration number BAJ 4486 and is the property of the Region Ten Tourism Committee Inc.

There was another occupant in the vehicle at the time it was intercepted at Bamia on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
During their first court appearance, the other occupant, 69-year-old Albert Sandy, a farmer from Tacama Waterfront, Upper Berbice River accepted responsibility for the marijuana when he appeared in court on October 23. He was was sentenced to four years of imprisonment.
