The bodies of two security guards and their firearms have been recovered after a boat capsized on the Puruni River while travelling from a backdam to Puruni Landing, police said Friday.
The ages and addresses of the officers, Patrice Grimmond and Kevis Robin, are not immediately known, police said.
Investigators were informed that the aluminium boat capsized at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Two other persons, including the captain, swam to safety, police added.
Two firearms – a shotgun and an AR rifle – and ammunition, all belonging to the security firm, were also recovered, police added.
Police said they found Grimmond’s body on Tuesday and Robin’s on Wednesday.
“The bodies were examined and no marks of violence were observed. They were subsequently escorted to the Bartica Hospital Mortuary for storage pending post-mortem examinations, while the recovered weapons and ammunition were lodged,” the Guyana Police Force added.
