Businessman remanded on human trafficking charge

Mr Alvin Parag

Last Updated on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, 21:21 by Writer

Mr Alvin Parag

A businessman from Diamond Housing Scheme was on Tuesday remanded to prison after he pleaded not guilty to trafficking a foreign woman, police said.

Senior Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded 49-year-old Alvin Parag, who also gave an Alberttown, Georgetown address, after police said the prosecutor “strenuously objected to bail.”
Mr Parag is accused of committing the offence on a 31-year-old female foreigner between March 29, 2025 and June 7, 2025 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

The matter was postponed to October 6, 2025 for statements and disclosure.

The Guyana Police Force says it will continue to work with its stakeholders to combat trafficking in persons in all forms.
