Four persons were arrested on Monday in connection with the alleged discovery of quantities of cocaine as well as a handgun and ammunition, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said.
Agents intercepted a motorcar on the Parika Public Road, East Bank Essequibo and discovered several parcels containing a whitish powdery substance that was later tested positive for cocaine, CANU said.
CANU further alleged that a subsequent follow-up operation at the suspect’s residence at Lima, Essequibo Coast uncovered one 5.32 Taurus pistol with a magazine containing 14 .22 rounds, along with several black bags containing an additional quantity of cocaine.
A CANU official said all of those arrested are Guyanese, but a Venezuelan identification card was found in the house.
The suspects were being processed for a possible court appearance on Tuesday, an official said.
