A 41-year-old man, known as “Minutes”, has been jailed for two years after he was found guilty in aiding the trafficking of 1.174 kilogrammes of marijuana, according to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU).
That Home Affairs Ministry department said Shemroy “Minutes” Robertson was sentenced to the jail term and fined GY$30,000 by Vigilance Magistrate, Fabayo Azore on August 8.
CANU said the conviction stemmed from an anti-drug operation conducted on June 17, 2021, during which officers intercepted a minibus at Ann’s Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara and arrested a suspect with the said quantity of cannabis. Robertson was arrested on June 28 in relation to the earlier operation.
CANU said Robertson was previously arrested and charged on January 15, 2016, along with one other suspect, with possession of 1.156 kilograms of cocaine.
The suspect was released, while Robertson was ordered to stand trial in the High Court. He was granted bail of GY$600,000, which is still pending.
Additionally, he was previously arrested and charged along with three others on March 6, 2017. However, the charges against him were dropped, CANU added.
