The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) was Saturday night hit by yet another resignation, this time by Mr Jermaine Figueira whose relationship appeared rocky with party leader Aubrey Norton.

In the resignation correspondence shared with the media, he also quit the National Assemnbly.

Party General Secretary Sherwin Benjamin confirmed that Mr Figueira, the chairman of the bipartisan parliamentary Public Accounts Committee, resigned from the PNCR.

Mr Figueira did not provide any reasons for his decision in the resignation letter to party leader Aubrey Norton.

Mr Norton on Friday told reporters that Mr Figueira was sent a candidate form for the September 1 2025 elections but he had so far not returned it.

Mr Figueira did not immediately answer calls or a question about his political career and whether he planned to join or become a candidate for the incumbent People’s Progressive Party Civic, Alliance For Change or the Amanza Walton-Desir-led Forward Guyana Movement.

In January 2024, Mr Figueira was removed as Shadow Minister of Culture Youth and Sport. He was also removed as PNCR Chairman for Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice).

By October 2024, he was seen in a photograph with several other former PNCR members who had since embraced the PPPC.

Others, who have severed ties with the PNCR are Dr Richard Van-West Charles, Thandi McAllister, Region Four Chairman Daniel Seeram, Region Four Vice Chairman Samuel Sandy, James Bond and opposition parliamentarians Geeta Chandan-Edmond, Natasha Singh-Lewis and Ms Walton Desir.
