ANUG, WIN reach merger agreement for election contest

Last Updated on Sunday, 29 June 2025, 9:12 by Writer

ANUG Leader Dr Mark France and WIN Leader Azruddin Mohamed sign their agreement.

A New and United Guyana (ANUG) and the Azruddin Mohamed-led We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) political party on Saturday formally agreed to join forces to contest the September 1 general and regional elections.

Based on a statement that was issued during the pre-dawn hours of Sunday, ANUG will be “under the WIN banner, to contest the 2025 General and Regional Elections.”

A signing ceremony was held on June 28, 2025, at WIN’s Head Office, where both party leaders Mr. Mohamed and Dr. Mark France signed the agreement on behalf of their respective parties, WIN and ANUG.

“This historic step reinforces the growing strength and momentum of the WIN campaign. With ANUG’s addition under the WIN banner, the movement gains valuable electoral experience and national reach, making ANUG the first political party to officially join the WIN platform,” they said in a joint statement.

ANUG and WIN also said they reaffirmed their commitment to a clean, fair, and respectful campaign, and together, we call on the people of Guyana to be part of this new political direction.

“We are confident that this agreement will enhance our collective capacity to deliver meaningful change and marks the beginning of a broader national movement to unify and uplift Guyana. We invite all Guyanese to join us on this exciting journey toward a stronger, more inclusive future.”

Dr France had previously told Demerara Waves Online News that ANUG would not be accepting funds from Mr Mohamed in light of the United States sanctions on him for allegedly evading US$50 million in taxes on more than 10,000 kilogrammes of exported gold.

Mr Mohamed has also been charged locally for alleged tax evasion and making a false declaration in connection with the importation of his Lamborghini luxury car.
