Guyanese police officer Himnauth Sawh and former Guyanese policeman and accused drug trafficker, Mark Cromwell, were Thursday sanctioned by the United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

Sawh was the commander of Region One Barima-Waini when a joint Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit-Guyana Defence Force operation had unearthed 4.4 tonnes of cocaine near an illegal airstrip near to Mabaruma in September 2024.

He was subsequently transferred to Georgetown

Mr Cromwell’s arrest about a year ago by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit, had sparked off violent protest, including burning of tyres, on the Buxton Public Road

Also sanctioned are Guyanese Paul Daby, Jr and Randolph Duncan as well as two Colombians.
