Several persons, including a businessman, have been arrested in connection with the breaking and entering and theft of items and cash from a Bartica supermarket, police said Wednesday.
The trio, who includes a businessman, are accused of committing the offence on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Xin Cheng Supermarket, Lot 61 Second Avenue, Bartica.
The supermarket is operated by 28-year-old Jiamiel Qui of Lot 9A Public Road, Ankerville, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
Investigation so far revealed that three suspects broke into the premises and removed items from the store shelves and cash register.
Police also said that based on information received, investigators visited the residence of one of the suspects who was arrested and questioned.
Items recovered are two black and yellow Ingco cordless drills with three batteries, one Ingco three-piece brush set, one black Decakila cordless mixer, one Ingco electric saw, one Ingco belt sander, one Decakila cordless portable blender, and 20 cartons of cigarettes.
Police said the remaining suspects, a businessman and others were subsequently arrested in connection with the alleged offence.
All arrested persons remain in custody assisting with ongoing investigation.
