A 66-year-old pensioner and a young unemployed woman were Wednesday arraigned on drug trafficking charges and released on bail, police said.
They are Phillipenia Carrington and 32-year-old Cherry Robertson both of Lot 47 Sixth Avenue, Bartica.
Two charges for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking were instituted.
Police said the women pleaded not guilty and were each placed on GY$50,000 bail.
The matter was adjourned to July 9, 2025.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) earlier Wednesday said a police operation on Tuesday netted 89 grammes of marijuana, 2.8 grammes of cocaine and a handbag with two transparent Ziplock bags containing 0.6 grammes of suspected methamphetamines.
Investigators said they also seized GY$918,050 suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotics.
Law enforcers said they also seized 46 bottles of alcoholic beverages that were probably smuggled into Guyana.
The GPF made no mention of the status of a teenager, who was arrested, or the status of investigations into the cash that was seized or the suspected smuggled alcoholic goods.
