One of three men, who allegedly broke and entered a supermarket in Bartica and stole money and items, pleaded guilty on Wednesday.
Police said 37-year-old Mario Singh of Lot 119 West Indian Housing Scheme was sentenced to one year and six months of imprisonment.
Thirty-fouryear old Paul McKenzie of Lot 4 New Housing Scheme, Bartica, and 44-year-old Carlton Simmons, a gold miner of Agatash Village, Bartica, Essequibo River pleaded ‘not guilty’ and were remanded to prison until July 2, 2025.
They are accused of committing the offence on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Xin Cheng Supermarket, Lot 61 Second Avenue, Bartica which was operated by 28-year-old Jiamiel Qui of Lot 9A Public Road, Ankerville, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
Police previously said that based on information received, investigators visited the residence of one of the suspects, who was arrested and questioned.
Items recovered are two black and yellow Ingco cordless drills with three batteries, one Ingco three-piece brush set, one black Decakila cordless mixer, one Ingco electric saw, one Ingco belt sander, one Decakila cordless portable blender, and 20 cartons of cigarettes.
