BREAKING: Son returns home to find mother battered, stabbed to death

A man returned home Sunday afternoon and found his 48-year  old mother battered and stabbed to death in her house at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

Dead is Anita Mohan, an itinerant vendor.

Imtiaz Khan said his cousin, who also lived at the house, at 315 Fifth Street, Cummings Lodge, was held by police.

Khan, who is a mason and works at a car  wash, said he left home at about 7:45 AM for work and returned home at about 4:45 PM to find the body of his mother in the house. He said the house  was ransacked, but he could not immediately say whether anything was stolen.

The 27-year old man does not believe that his cousin killed Mohan although he left him home with his mother.  Khan said his cousin recalled leaving home at about 3PM to tend to their cattle.

Neighbours said they heard loud music from the house.
