Guyanese model jailed for cocaine trafficking

A Guyanese model was Tuesday jailed for attempting to traffick cocaine-in-achar to the United States (US) more than one year ago.

Magistrate Leron Daley sentenced 41-year old Sadeeka Leona Odie to four years imprisonment and fined her GYD$30,000.

She was nabbed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) by agents of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on February 8, 2014 with 9.27 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in mango achar.

Odie of 186 Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown had pleaded not guilty to the offence when she was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Investigators had found out that the single mother of five children had been paid an advance of US$4,000 and  a plane ticket that had been purchased by a man from Republic Park, East Bank Demerara.

Attorney-at-Law, Dexter Todd represented the woman at the trial which was held at the Providence Magistrates’ Court.
