Another woman jumps over Kaieteur Falls

Last Updated on Saturday, 21 November 2015, 16:53 by GxMedia

Another young woman jumped off the Kaieteur Falls Saturday morning, two months after a woman committed suicde  by the same means, multiple sources confirmed.

She has been identified as 21-year old Roshinee Pagwah. It was not immediately confirmed that she died.

Pagwah, according to sources, ran and jumped over the falls despite best efforts by one of the tour guides to restrain her.

President of the National Air Transport Association, Annette Arjoon-Martins expressed grave concern about what appeared to be a copy-cat approach by distressed persons. She said there needs to be a structured approach to dealing with mental health in Guyana.

Police were Saturday preparing to dispatch a team of investigators to the scene and also interview the pilot of the Roraima Airways plane and passengers on their return to the coastland.

All flights to Ogle were expected to be cancelled to pave the way for investigators to engage in rescue or recovery operations.

Pagwah committed suicide two months after Gyaneshwarie Sivanand committed suicide by a similar means.

Shortly after that incident, government and other stakeholders had agreed to put in place a raft of measures to minimize the chances of a recurrence.
