Bartica in blackout; power company issues schedule

Last Updated on Tuesday, 17 November 2015, 17:30 by GxMedia

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) says during the early hours of this morning, Tuesday, November 17, a damaged cooling component on the No. 11 Engine at Bartica necessitated the engine being taken offline thus reducing available capacity to the Township.

At present, only the No. 10 Engine remains in service; consequent of this, GPL has instituted a daily load shedding guide from Tuesday, November 17 to Sunday, November 22, 2015 as follows:

Time

Areas

08:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs

Byderabo,  Agatash , First Avenue between Fifth and Ninth Streets, Fifth Street between Seventh and Fourth Avenues., First Street between Fourth and Seventh Avenues

16:00 hrs to 00:00 hrs (Midnight)

1 – 4 Miles Potaro, a section of Mongrippa Hill, West Indian Housing Scheme.

00:00 hrs to 08:00 hrs

Old Housing Scheme

Mongrippa Hill (Part 2), First Avenue between First and Fifth Streets. Third Avenue between First and Fifth Streets,

Efforts are underway to replace the damaged components and return the No. 11 Engine into service by Sunday, November 22, 2015.

Our Company appeals for patience and understanding from the residents of Bartica as every effort is being made to restore reliable power supply.  Residents are advised to check TARZIE television station, GPL’s website at www.gplinc.net  or GPL’s Facebook page (GPL Inc.) for updates.
