St. Kitts-bound drugs-laden granny jailed,m fined

A Saint Kitts-bound woman, who was about to smuggle a large quantity of cocaine and marijuana out of Guyana, was Tuesday jailed for four years.

Catherine Ross, 60, of 701 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown pleaded guilty to being in possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when she appeared before Magistrate Zameena Ali at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.

The facts of the case are that on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the  Ogle International Airport she had in her possession 4.612 kilogrammes of cocaine and 3.826 kilogrammes of marijuana.

In addition to the jail term, she was also fined GY$30,000.

The woman, who was unrepresented, begged the court to be lenient with her.

Anti-narcotics police discovered four brick-like objects in brown tape that turned out to be marijuana and 200 transparent pellets with a cream powder that were in three black plastic bags.
