Fire Sunday night destroyed a house at Victory Valley, Linden, leaving five persons homeless.

Marlon Gentle, Fire Chief told Demerara Waves Online News that the blaze occurred shortly after 8 PM.

There were no reported injuries.

Neigbours said a woman only known in the neighbourhood as Samantha locked her three young children in the house and went to play dominoes.

Fearing that they would be beaten by their mother, the children  refused to evacuate the burning house. Neighbours then decided to break into the dwelling and rescue them.
