Woman burnt to death, two buildings destroyed

Fire destroyed two buildings and killed an elderly woman at Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, eyewitnesses said.

A Citizen Reporter on the scene told Demerara Waves Online News that the fire engulfed the wooden house that was occupied by the woman, who was there alone, and quickly spread to Puran’s Waste Disposal Services’ office building.

Police identified the dead woman as Princess Tinnamon, 98 years, whose charred remains were found among the debris.

Investigators said two motor vehicles that were on Puran’s premises were also destroyed.

The eyewitness said fire tenders did not arrive promptly and when they did, water was in limited supply.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
