SWAT team, murder suspects in shootout; several arrested; two injured gun, ammo found

Last Updated on Tuesday, 14 July 2015, 14:27 by GxMedia

Police early Tuesday morning killed a suspect and arrested eight others in the murder of a city businessman and the battery of a judge and her husband.

The raid took place at about 2 AM at  Craig, East Bank Demerara.

Crime sleuths  believe that the suspects are linked to the gunning down of the owner of Multiplex Mall, Ganesh “Boyo” Lall at his home at La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara, and the severe beating of Justice Nicole Pierre and her husband at Felicity, East Coast Demerara. The suspects have been also fingered in the killing of Travis Rudder at Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara.

Investigators said a policeman and one of the eight men were shot and injured during the exchange of gunfire. “At about 0200h. today Tuesday July 14, 2015, the Police SWAT Team was deployed along with Detectives to effect the arrests. The police ranks came under fire during which a Constable was shot to his right thigh. The injured Constable and other ranks returned fire fatally wounding one suspect and another suspect was shot and injured to his abdomen and is under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation,” police said. Seven other male suspects who were in the building have been arrested and are in police custody.

Police listed the items found at the house as one 9mm. Glock pistol with two (2) magazines and twenty five (25) matching rounds and the two wrist watches. A number of 9mm. spent shells were recovered at the scene.

The Guyana Police Force credited their apparent smashing of that criminal gang to support from a “concerned citizen.

The Guyana Police Force thanked “the concerned citizen for the supportive efforts in these investigations so far.”
