A bandit was shot dead and two others injured while they were robbing a businessman at Grove, East Bank Demerara on Saturday afternoon.
Police said one of the bandits escaped while another was rushed to a city hospital where he was admitted under guard.
Following is a police statement on the incident.
At about 1430h. today Saturday June 06, 2015, a businessman, who is also a licensed firearm holder, was at a snackette at Grove, EBD, when four men on two motor cycles drove up. One of the men who was armed with a handgun held up the businessman and took away his jewellery, during which he shot the victim to his left arm.
The businessman however managed to discharge several rounds at the perpetrators. One of them, who is so far unidentified, was hit to his chest and was pronounced DOA at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. Another perpetrator, who is also so far unidentified, was hit to his neck and right hand and has been admitted to the GPHC where he is under guard.
The other two men managed to escape, one of whom is suspected to also have been shot.
The businessman has been admitted to hospital for medical attention.
One of the motor cycles has been detained by the police as the investigations continue.
