Two women were arrested at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Friday afternoon while allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 10 kilogrammes of cocaine to the United States, according to well-placed sources.

Investigators said the cocaine was stashed in the false sides of their suitcases.

Those arrested are 40-year old Nanda Ally and 30-year old Vanessa Harper.  Ally was arrested with more than six kilogrammes of the narcotic and Harper with about five kilos.

Sources said Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) agents arrested the women after the cocaine was allegedly found in the false sides of their suitcases.

They were about to leave on a Caribbean Airlines (CAL) flight to New York via Port-of-Spain.
