Three nabbed for spate of Thursday night robberies in East Berbice

Last Updated on Friday, 3 April 2015, 17:07 by GxMedia

Three men have been arrested in connection with a spate of robberies in East Berbice during Thursday night, police said.

Following is the full text of a statement issued by the Guyana Police Force.

At about 2030h. last night Thursday April 02, 2015, three men, one of whom was armed with a firearm and the others with cutlasses, entered the home of Chandrajeet Persaud, 51 years, of Glasgow Housing Scheme, EBB, through the open doorway.

They held him up and demanded valuables, however Persaud resisted and was shot to his back in the process. He has been admitted to hospital for medical treatment.

The three men then proceeded to another home at Glasgow where they confronted Stanley McKenzie as he was parking his motor vehicle, and took away his motor vehicle and a cell phone and escaped.

It is suspected that the perpetrators then went to a home at No. 2 Village, Canje, where they entered through the open door and held up the family and took away a quantity of jewellery and a sum of cash; and then to the nearby Caribbean Cuisine Restaurant where they held up the bartender and took away his cell phone and $20,000.00 and escaped.

The men then went to Canefield, Canje, where they entered the home of Emaan Singh and family and held them up and took away jewellery, cash, and a cell phone and escaped.

The stolen motor vehicle was found abandoned in Cumberland, Canje.

Three men have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
