GECOM begins distributing National Identification Cards

Last Updated on Thursday, 19 March 2015, 4:42 by GxMedia

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Wednesday announced that the distribution of National Identification Cards, for persons registered during the recent Claims and Objections exercise has commenced nationwide.

“GECOM is asking those persons who would have conducted registration transactions during this exercise to visit the Registration Office responsible for their areas of residence to collect their ID cards.

Also GECOM is urging persons who were registered during previous registration exercises but have not uplifted their National Identification Cards, to make a very special effort to do so, from the GECOM Registration Office or Sub-Office responsible for their area of residence,” the elections management authority said in a statement.

All of GECOM’s Registration Offices and Sub-Offices will be opened Monday to Thursday from 8:00h-16:30h, Fridays from 8:00h – 15:30h, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00h-14:00h.

Every registered Guyanese aged 14 years or over should at all times be able to show a valid National ID card if so requested. Please note carefully that your National ID card is a multi-functional document that identifies you by photograph. Collect your National ID Card today!
