A well-known lumber dealer was stabbed to his neck during an argument and drove himself to a City hospital with a knife in his neck, eyewitnesses said.
Known only by his surname, Beckles, he was stabbed outside a taxi service just off Cummings and Church Streets while he was allegedly holding a weapon.
An eyewitness told Demerara Waves Online News that about 5:15 PM there was an altercation in which the perpetrator allegedly told a female associate of Beckles’ that he knew the businessman since he was a tout with his father.
Beckles allegedly hit the man who allegedly retaliated by removing a knife from a car and stabbing him to his back just below the neck
The businessman- who owns lumber yards on Norton Street, Lodge and Lombard Street, Werk-en-Rust- left with the six-inch long blade stuck in his body.
Sources said he underwent emergency surgery at a private hospital and was resting.
