West Bank Demerara businessman robbed of GUY$2.5 while going to buy fuel

A businessman was Monday robbed of GUY$2.5 million shortly before he was about to purchase a quantity of fuel from the Guyana Oil Company’s (GuyOi) fuel depot at Providence, East Bank Demerara, police said.

The robbery victim, 58-year old Jaiprashad Ketwaroo of Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara , told investigators that about 12:20 PM, he was in his motor lorry when the incident occurred.

He said that as he was about to turn, a man jumped off a motorcycle, pointed a gun at him and demanded a bag containing the cash.

Police said the robber and an accomplice escaped. No one has been arrested.
