Barbados-bound young woman arrested allegedly with cocaine

A woman, who intended to travel to Barbados for the first time was Saturday arrested after a quantity of cocaine was found in her suitcase, a senior anti-drug agent said.

Her name has been withheld until she is charged, but the official of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) said the woman hails from Bartica but lives in Georgetown.

The CANU official said the 24-year old woman was preparing to board a LIAT flight at the Ogle International Airport (CJIA), East Coast Demerara when a search was conducted on her baggage. 

A total of one kilogramme of cocaine was found in the false wall of her suitcase.

The CANU official said the woman was travelling to the Caribbean island for the first time. Immigration records do not classify her as a “frequent flyer.”

She said gave her occupation as that of a secretary.
