Rural Constable first homicide victim for the New Year

A Rural Constable in Mahdia is believed to be Guyana’s first homicide victim for the New Year-2015.

Sources in the mining community said that Andre Britton was stabbed to death by a young man about 12:55 AM who was among numerous persons liming on the street to bid farewell to 2014.

Britton was rushed to the Mahdia Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention.

One person has been arrested.

Investigators are working on the theory that Britton’s assailant might have been involved in an attempted robbery in the Mahdia community of Pamela during Tuesday night.

The man raised an alarm and the three robbers escaped, according to the source.

Mahdia is said to be severely affected by criminals many of whom are from other areas of the country.
