San Juan, Dec 15 (EFE).- The government of St. Lucia on Monday offered condolences to the families of three people who died last week in a fire aboard a cruise ship docked in Castries.
“I wish to offer the greatest support on behalf of the people of Saint Lucia to the victims of the fire. At this juncture, I also wish to commend the response teams for their timely and efficient handling of the incident,” Tourism Minister Lorne Theophilus said in a statement.
A fire broke out last Thursday in the engine room of the Insignia, operated by Oceania Cruises, which left San Juan on Dec. 8 for a 10-day cruise around the Caribbean.
Two contractors and a member of the ship’s crew were killed.
Built in 1998, the Insignia was refurbished this year and has 684 double-occupancy cabins.
