Boiler operator blasted to death

A 50 year old Boiler Operator employed with the John and Jason Tulshi Rice Mill located at Number 49 Village Corentyne perished after the boiler he was attending to exploded.

Phillip Gangaprashad of Number 47 Village succumbed while on his way to the Skeldon Hospital  

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown and According to Supervisor of the Mill Junior Richardson the company sympathizes with the family and have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

“It’s an accident and we are very sorry, we have launched an investigation and someone will be here to check the boiler to find out what may have caused the explosion, He was feeding the boiler when it blow off “.

Richardson explained, at approximately 07:55 hrs he was on site when he heard the explosion and ran to the back where the boiler was located and quickly picked up Gangaprasad who was covered in blood and his leg almost severed and he was moaning with pain. He said they left for the Hospital but he died on is way.

According to the dead man wife Banmattie Dass, Phillip left the follwing night for his 12:00 AM to 08:00 AM shift but received a call informing her about an accident at the mill.

The distraught woman, said they rushed to the Skeldon hospital to see him but were met with the ill-fated news of his death.

Dass related amidst tear her husband was a caring father and good man who will be missed.

She related, the family cannot come to grips of his sudden death, since he left home for work a few hours earlier in good health for a day’s work to provide for their home.

At the home of Gangaprashad, family, relatives and neighbor gathered to offer support and utter their shocked at Phillip’s demise.

Gangaprashad was employed with the company for a several years but left and returned about three weeks ago.He leaves to mourn his wife and 3 children.
