Dental Technician stabs wife to death

Last Updated on Sunday, 21 September 2014, 19:37 by GxMedia

Rajkumarie Persaud

A Dental Technician on Sunday stabbed his common-law wife to death at Hague, West Coast Demerara before attempting to commit suicide and escaping several miles away to the East Bank Demerara.

She has been identified as 24-year old Rajkumarie Persaud. The assailant, Seudesh “Amit” Makeram was taken to the Georgetown Hospital Corporation to be treated for poisoning by the ingestion of an agricultural chemical.

The incident occurred at 64 Hague Back, West Coast Demerara about 12:45 PM.

Makeram is employed as a Dental Technician at dental establishment near the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

Chief of Criminal Investigations, Senior Superintedent Leslie James said police were probing a report that the two were moments earlier arguing over an accusation that she had rekindled a relationship with an ex-boyfriend. He then picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her several Persaud several times. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Best Hospital, West Coast Demerara.

Relatives confirmed that she was the mother of  a two-year old son from a previous relationship.

James said the man has already admitted to killing his wife.

Other sources said Makeram then escaped through a rice field at Hague before ending up at his relatives at Grove, East Bank Demerara.

They promptly summoned the police who held him at the Providence Police Station, East Bank Demerara . He was later transferred to the West Coast Demerara Division where the incident occurred.

Speaking with reporters at the girl’s home, while preparations were being made for a wake, relatives said Persaud and Makeram had been in a relationship for about one year and began co-habiting six months ago.

The relatives are baffled why Makeram committed such an act because they were unaware of any tension between the two.
