A 10-year old student of Hosororo Primary School on Sunday died by drowning at the Wauna Bridge, a popular hangout spot in the Mabaruma sub-region.

Dead is 10 Ajay Facktu, a Grade Five student. He had gone to the remote recreational area, along with several of his friends, to swim.

About 4 PM, he went missing in the deep waters around the bridge, which connects Wauna to the other villages in the sub region.

Relatives and friends wept in tears as persons commenced search efforts to locate his body while persons warned of the dangers of the deep waters at the facility, mainly regarding the safety of children.

The water level at the site rises to as much as 15 feet during the high tides and many North West resident s would travel by the bus loads to the popular spot, especially on weekends and on holidays.
