Bandit shoots accomplice dead during escape from robbery scene

One of three banidts was shot and eventually died during their escape from the scene of a home invasion at Corentyne, East Berbice, police said on Monday.

He has been identified as Avinash Rambazad called “Pandit”, 20 years, of Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice, and he succumbed today while receiving medical treatment at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Police said Pandit and the two others, armed with guns, allegedly invaded the home of Rohan Doodnauth and his wife Renawattie Doodnauth and robbed them of a quantity of jewellery.

Investigations have revealed that the three perpetrators entered the premises and held up Rohan Doodnauth and his wife along with an employee.

They demanded cash and valuables and some Jewellery were handed over. Not satisfied with the Jewellery, the men made more demands and threatened the victims during which one of them discharged a round that struck one of his accomplices to the body.

Neighbouring residents responded, forcing the men to flee and leaving the wounded man behind.
