Police said Robert Sandy of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, died at the New Amsterdam Prison.
Sandy had been charged with the murder of Onika Greaves which occurred on May 19, 2014.
He appeared in court on Tuesday May 27, 2014, where he was remanded to prison until June 9, 2014.
He was suspected of having consumed a poisonous substance following the incident and had been admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital under guard until Monday May 26, 2014, when was discharged.
