Prison escapee shot dead, gun recovered

KILLED: Vickram Persaud

Another of the four prisoners, who escaped while at te Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, was Monday evening shot dead, Crime Chief, Senior Superintendent Leslie James said.

He said 28-year old Vickram “Lil John” Persaud was shot and killed at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice. James said a .38 revolver was found in his possession.

Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) sources said Persaud’s face was blasted. Police said that about 7:20 PM, Persaud of Doctor Dam, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, “was fatally shot during an armed confrontation with the police at
Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice.” Persaud who was charged with the murder of Tactical Services Unit rank Constable Cumberbatch in September,2013

Persaud’s death now means that the police are hunting two other prisoners- Seon Cummings, who is facing several robbery charges,and Randolph Marks who was charged with last month’s murder of the Patsan Trading Sales representative, Bharrat Ramcharan.

Steven Bacchus of  Block ‘E’ Sophia who has been charged with the murder of Constable Quincy Wright in January, 2014, was caught shortly after he and the others had broken out of the holding cell at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.

Randolph MarksThe police issued wanted bulletins Monday night for Cummings, 26 years, of Sophia; and Marks, 20 years, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetow. “They  are wanted by the police after escaping from the lock-ups at the Georgetown Magistrate Court today, Monday May 19, 2014, where they were awaiting attendance at Court.”

Anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest of Keron Cummings and Randolph Marks is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 227-1149, 225-6941 to 3, 225-2227, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station.
