Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 20:59 by GxMedia

L to R: President Donald Ramotar and his predecessor, Bharrat Jagdeo
A Partnership for National Unity’s (APNU) parliamentarian, Desmond Trotman wants to know how much money has been spent on health care for former President, Bharat Jagdeo and the number, costs and benefits of overseas trips by current President, Donald Ramotar.

“It’s very clear that I want to know what benefits will accrue to Guyana in relation to some of the trips undertaken by the President and in relation to Jagdeo, I want to know how he has benefited from the pension fund that has been established,” he  told Demerara Waves Online News.

The questions have been posed by Trotman to the Prime Minister and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Samuel Hinds and the Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh. He is expected to provide answers at the next sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday, May 15, 2014.

Asked whether he was asking the questions because he believed that Jagdeo and Ramotar have allegedly misused State funds, the Working Peoples Alliance (WPA) representative in APNU would only say that “I don’t know as yet if there has been. Let’s wait for the answers,” he said.

Trotman wants the Prime Minister to tell the 65-seat House what is the total dollar cost of each trip made by the President and delegations individually (destination, accommodation, transportation) since taking office in 2011 and what are the immediate and medium term benefits to Guyana associated with each of the trips undertaken by the President and delegations since taking office in 2011 to February, 2014.

Specifically, he wants to know how the country would gain in 2014 from trips and visits made in 2012 and gain in 2016 from those trips made in 2012 and 2013.

The APNU Parliamentarian wants the Finance Minister to say what is the total health expenses/claims met under the Former President’s Pensions Act for former President, Bharrat Jagdeo and/or his dependents for each month since he demitted office in 2011 to 28th February, 2014 as well as what is the electricity charge paid under the Act for former President, Jagdeo, for each month since he demitted office in 2011 up to the end of February, 2014.

Trotman is also asking what is the cost of providing transportation (local and overseas) inclusive of cars and drivers, including air cost and road under the Act for former President, Bharrat Jagdeo and/or his dependents for each month since he demitted office in 2011 to 28th February, 2014 and what is the monthly cost of providing security for personal and property(s) under the Act for Jagdeo since he demitted office in 2011 until 28th February, 2014.
