A fisherman was hacked to death at his East Coast Demerara home early Friday morning during what investigators are treating as a robbery.
“The men demanded cash and jewellery during which the two victims were chopped about their bodies,” a police spokesman said in a statement.
Police identified him as 40-year old Chetram Bharrat of 418 Block 20, Haslington Village, East Coast Demerara.
Initial investigations indicate that two men, both of whom were armed with cutlasses, entered the home Bharrat and his reputed wife Lomattie Ramdat, 36 years, through a window.
“The man was a good person,” a neighbour told Demerara Waves Online News.
Neighbours said they heard screams about 1 AM and thought that was the man and his partner had imbibed, engaged in a yet another fight and then then “made up” again.
