The Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), Ronald Webster died early Sunday morning at the Balwant Singh Hospital, a senior private sector official said.
He passed away at 3:30 AM at the medical institution while recuperating from a recent cancer surgery in Trinidad.
“He was battling with cancer for a while and he was in Trinidad for an operation last week and after the operation he was flown to Guyana for further care at Balwant Singh Hospital and he passed away,” Honorary Secretary of the PSC, Ramesh Dookhoo said.
Dookhoo described Webster’s passing as a “sad blow”. “Ron was a very experienced man. He brought the maturity and the level-headedness that we needed at this point in time and it’s a real sad loss,” said Dookhoo, himself a former PSC Chairman.
Webster was also praised for improving relations with the government especially in the area of tax reform.
Webster was Head of Caribbean Container Inc up to the time of his passing. He was also a former Chairman of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC).
