The Guyana Gold Board(GGB) has shut down its offices in the Bartica sub-district and called in the police to probe allegations of tampering during the purchase of the precious metal, the Natural Resources Ministry said in a statement.
“The Guyana Police Force is currently questioning several persons including the employees of both the Bartica sub-office and the main office in Georgetown,” said Secretary of the GGB Board of Directors, Bobby Gossai in a statement.
The Natural Resources Ministry said a meeting has been convened with the GGB, Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA), licensed dealers and other stakeholders “to ensure that this matter does not disrupt the overall trading of gold, particularly in the Region Seven location.
