A huge fire Friday morning destroyed five dwellings, several fuel boats and large quantities of fuel at Turn Basin waterfront, Port Kaituma.
Destroyed were one shop with living quarters, four small fuel bonds with living quarters, three fuel boats, one large trawler and huge quantities of fuel. There were no reported injuries.
“Several properties already burnt out. Nothing will stop this till there’s nothing more to burn,” a usually reliable citizen reporter told Demerara Waves Online News.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known biut it is believed to have started aboard one of the fuel boats.
