Trio bailed for stealing GUY$M in items from overseas-based Guyanese

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 20:59 by GxMedia

Three men, accused of stealing GUY$3.6 million worth of items, were Wednesday granted little more than GUY$1 million bail on separate charges of breaking and entering a house owned by an overseasd-based Guyanese and stealing a number of items.

They are Patrick Dundas,23, and two carpenters-41 year old Leon McKenzie and 34-year old Michael Chabrol.

They were initially placed on GUY$400,000 bail each but eventually City Magistrate, Faith Mc Gusty reduced each amount by GUY$50,000. The case has been transferred to the Providence Magistrates’ Court where it will be heard on June 4.

Police accused the men of breaking and entering Hemdatt Kumar’s house at Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara between March 19 and March 28. They are further accused of the larceny of one Honda generator, two grass cutters, three water pumps, three fans, one Close Circuit Television (CCTV) system, two ornaments, one bracelet, two gold rings and other items that value GUY$3.691 million.

Police Prosecutor, Tracy May-Gittens told the court that the caretaker secured the premises at Second Dam, Garden of Eden on March 19 about 2 PM. However, when he returned on March 28, he discovered that the items were missing.
