A man who slapped his wife after she refused to have sexual intercourse with him was Tuesday jailed for 12 months.
43-year old Raul Oliviera of 45 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown appeared before City Magistrate, Geeta Chandan-Edmond and pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting Lucy Fernandez to cause her actual bodily harm and threatening to chop her.
Police Prosecutor, Jomo Nichols also told the court that the incident occurred on January 20 after Fernandez refused to have sex with her on his return.
Oliviera told the court that his wife was having a relationship with another man for some time now.
Olivieria, who works as a labourer in the interior, also expressed concern that his wife has been spending monies for unknown purposes instead of on the home.
