A policeman was robbed and then shot after the bandits realised he was a law enforcement officer on seeing his badge in his wallet.
Guyana Police Force spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said the incident occurred about 5:35 Saturday morning on Bent Street, Georgetown.
Police Constable 14716 Kirk Profitt was walking when he was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
The perpetrators took away his wallet along with $10,000.00 dollars and his cell phone.
“They then observed his Police Badge in the wallet and shot him to his abdomen and escaped on bicycles,” said the police spokesman.
Profitt has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for medical treatment.
