Curious onlookers and investigators near the Kakabura Creek where the female teenager’s body was found

The body of a 16-year old girl was early Tuesday morning found floating in a creek at Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke, residents and police said.

She has been identified as Raveena Cozier. Police said there were several stab wounds to the body which was found about 8 AM.

A knife and a pair of slippers were found near the edge of the Kakabura Creek in which the body was seen.

Police sources said they have launched a search for gold miner Leo Rodrigues,28, with whom the teenager had a relationship. Investigators have so far learnt that the man left the area late last night in a taxi that transported him to Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

Residents said the Cozier  was last seen in the company of the man last night. When she did not return home, a search was conducted and her sister and mother found the body.
