Motorcyclist dies in collision with truck

A speeding motorcyclist was killed when he collided with a truck on the De Kinderen Public Road, West Coast Demerara, sources said.

He has been identified as 19-year old Ahad Sheik of De Willem, West Coast Demerara.

Immediately after the collision, he was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Leonora Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The truck driver has been arrested and has been assisting with the investigation. The probe has so far revealed that a motor lorry, GKK 1849, was proceeding east and the motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction.

Eyewitnesses further alleged that the speeding motorcycle was about to overtake an east-bound hire car while negotiating a left turn when the bike collided with the lorry.
