Metro Office accountant accused of stealing millions

An accountant of Metro Office Supplies was Thursday arraigned and placed on GUY$250,000 bail on a charge of stealing more than GUY$10 million from his employer.

56-year old Rabindranaugh Seenarine was not required to plea to the charge of stealing GUY$10,758,094.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Attorney-at-Law, Yogenand Persaud said his client has been an accountant for 25 years and he has been employed by Metro for the past 13 years. According to the lawyer, Seenarine never had any financial problems or any problems with the law before. He said his client has been the victim of an Internet scam

The prosecutor said Seenarine collected money on behalf of the company and converted it to his own use and benefit.

Seenarine was granted bail, told to lodge his passport and report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) every Friday at 8 AM.
